Class Descriptions
Descriptions of the classes offered at the
St. Charles Avenue Athletic Club.
20/20/20 - This class consists of Kick Boxing, low-impact aerobics or Step for cardio, toning using weights, tubes or stability balls, and concludes with floor exercises.
BODY SHAPING EXPRESS - This high-intensity class consists of 15 minutes of high/low aerobics for cardiovascular conditioning, 15 minutes of dumbbells and body bar exercises for strength training and 15 minutes of various abdominal exercises for the non-cardio person.
BUTTS AND GUTS - This class is designed to target the abs and glutes.
CARDIO-BOXING - A cardio class that involves jabs, punches, kicks, and jumping jacks for an energetic heart-pumping workout. The cardio part of the workout lasts 45 minutes followed by a 15-minute abs segment.
GROUP WEIGHTS - This strength training class will work you from head to toe by using light weights and high repetitions. This is a multi-level class designed to give you a toning workout.
INTRODUCTION TO YOGA – This class is ideal for anyone new to yoga. Students will gain an understanding of the fundamentals of yoga, including the basic poses, breath work, and meditation and learn to practice in a nurturing and non-intimidating environment.
NY/NU – This is a 14-week intensified fitness program focused on getting in shape, building a “new you” that is more healthy and fit. It combines group exercise and strength training, fitness and nutritional counseling, support through encouragement and group collaboration, and gets you in ultimate shape through resistance training, cardio challenges, and core training.
PILATES - The benefits of this class can be traced to enhance fitness through posture, strength, coordination, flexibility and balance. The bigger challenge of the class derives from the concentration of the mind, breathing and precision.
SALSA CLASS - This class is a 45 minute instruction on the New York style of salsa. This class is low impact and the mostly dance aspect makes it useful as well as fun.
SPIN - The instructor leads you through a fun ride workout consisting of various levels and techniques that you may experience on the road.
STEP - This Step class includes fat burning, high intensity movements with fun step combinations on adjustable platforms.
“SUMMER SHAPE 2K8” - This is a 14-week intensified fitness program focused on getting in shape and building a “new you”, one that is more healthy and more fit. It combines group exercise and strength training, fitness and nutritional counseling, and support through encouragement and group collaboration and gets you in ultimate shape through resistance training, cardio challenges, and core training.
“Summer Shape 2K8” is a program that we offer for weight reduction. This is a pre-paid program. (D) Daytime program and (E) Evening program.
TOTAL BODY CONDITIONING - This high intensity class consists of kickboxing, low-impact aerobics, step for cardiovascular conditioning, abs, stretching, squats, lunges, dumbbells and body bars, for the non-cardio portion of this one hour workout.
YOGA - This class is for all levels. The instructor will give you the benefit of greater understanding of correct alignment in the poses and deepen your current practice.
YOGA/PILATES – A vigorous yoga class with emphasis on strengthening the core with pilates. Yoga helps you get strong and centered, while pilates strengthens the abdominals and lower back muscles.
